Shan Masood-led Pakistan suffered a humiliating 10-wicket defeat in the first Test against Bangladesh at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Sunday (August 25).

Former India batsman Aakash Chopra took to X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday (August 25) to blast the Pakistan team after the Shan Masood-led side suffered an embarrassing 10-wicket defeat to Bangladesh in a Test match at home. In the first Test of the ongoing two-match series at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, Pakistan conceded a 117-run lead in the first innings and then could only manage 146 runs in the second, setting a 30-run target for Bangladesh on the final day of the Test.

The visitors reached the target in 6.4 overs without losing a wicket and recorded their first Test victory against the Pakistani team.

After Bangladesh became the first team to win a Test match against Pakistan in Pakistan by 10 wickets, Chopra tweeted that not many teams lose a Test match at home after declaring their first innings. He irked the Asian giants by adding that Pakistani cricket is a gift that keeps on giving.

“Not many teams lose a Test match after finishing their first innings with over 400 runs and a four-wicket lead. At home. Pakistani cricket is a gift that keeps on giving.”

Spinners shine

Spinners Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Shakib Al Hasan took seven wickets between them in the second innings on Sunday to secure a memorable win for the Najmul Hossain Shanto-led side. Mehidy finished with figures of 4 for 21 in 11.5 overs while former captain Shakib took three wickets for 44 runs.

For Pakistan, centurion Mohammad Rizwan, who played in the first innings, also scored the most runs in the second innings with 51 runs, but his efforts were in vain and the hosts lost their fourth consecutive Test match under Shan Masood’s captaincy.

Bangladesh, who have been criticised for their lack of Test wins, have now won against Australia, England and Pakistan. The victory in Rawalpindi was only their sixth in 143 Tests.

The second and final test will also be played in Rawalpindi starting Friday; the series is part of the World Test Championship (WTC).

After the defeat, Pakistan slipped to eighth place in the nine-team WTC table, while Bangladesh climbed to sixth place.
