Lily Allen received a brutal gift from an animal welfare organization after she decided to give away her dog because it ate her passport.

The 39-year-old “Smile” singer faced a lot of backlash after she spoke about the dog that “ruined her life.”

During an episode of her podcast Miss me? Allen said she adopted the little dog to live with her two children, Ethel Mary Cooper, 12, and Marnie Rose Cooper, 11, in their New York townhouse.

Allen has children with her ex-husband Sam Cooper. They married in 2011 and divorced in 2018.

“We had actually already adopted a dog once, but it ate my passport and so I took her back to the shelter,” explains the musician.

“She ate all three of our passports and they had our visas with them.

“And I can’t tell you how much money it cost me to have everything replaced because it was Covid, so it was just an absolute logistical nightmare.

“And because my children’s father lives in England, I couldn’t take them back to their father for four or five months because that damn dog ate the passports.

“And I just couldn’t look at her. I thought, ‘You ruined my life.'”

The animal rights organization PETA then sent the singer a message by sending her a mechanical dog.

“We were appalled when you said you returned your adopted dog, Mary, to the shelter because she chewed up your family’s passports,” Elisa Allen, PETA’s vice president of programs, said in a letter on Friday (August 23).

“While they could get new passports and rebook their flights, Mary could spend many months in the home waiting for a new family – if she is even lucky enough to find one.

“Anyone who knows and loves dogs knows that it is likely that a dog will chew something in the house at some point.

“Dogs often explore the world by putting things in their mouths – it’s only natural! Couldn’t you have put your important documents in a drawer?

“Dogs should never be treated like accessories that you throw away when they become inconvenient.

“They are loyal companions who deserve the same unwavering love and devotion they give us.”

The group added of the meaning of their gift: “And because Allen said she wants to get another dog soon, the group is also sending her a mechanical toy dog with the message: ‘This is truly the only animal you should bring into your home.'”

The LADbible Group has contacted PETA and a representative for Lily Allen for comment.
