Another Sunday feeling with triple-digit temperatures in Houston, but there will be changes.

Today’s forecast:

HOUSTON – It’s a little cooler compared to last week, but it’s still hot. Today will be mostly sunny with a light 5-10 mph breeze. We’re watching the chance of isolated showers south of I-10 today, and more rain is on the way for your commute Monday morning.

Pattern change:

By Sunday we will finally see a shift in the hot high pressure system pulling Texas back into the Central Plains. We will be tracking a low pressure system moving in from the east side of the Gulf that will bring with it a lot of tropical moisture from lower regions.

As the moisture moves in, we’ll change our hot weather forecast for this week and increase the chance of rain for most of next week. You can expect some heavy downpours at times each afternoon.

No tropical activity is expected in the Atlantic Ocean for the next seven days. The next named storm will be Francine, but that is unlikely within the next seven days.

Next week our weather pattern changes. Tropical humidity moves in, lowering temperatures and increasing the chance of rain. Day 9 is the first day of September.

If you’re looking for cooler weather, we expect a gradual cooldown in September. Our average high temperature drops to 88° by the end of the month. Our average low temperature drops to 67° – thank goodness!

The hottest September we’ve ever experienced was 109° and the coolest was 45°! That’s a range of 64°! (Copyright 2024 by KPRC Click2Houston – All rights reserved.)

Although we expect our temperatures to drop seasonally, the Climate Prediction Center expects temperatures to remain above average throughout the month across most of the U.S. As a reminder, our last 100-degree day was September 27, following Hurricane Rita.
