Browns lose last preseason game 37-33, but many great plays on both sides

The Browns played their final preseason game of the year against the Seattle Seahawks, with a late start at 10 p.m. ET on the West Coast. Deshaun Watson and other regulars were left out, and the result was a 37-33 loss that leaves Cleveland winless this preseason. On to the regular season! But first, here’s a recap of what happened.

1st quarter

The Browns got the ball first, but QB James Winston couldn’t get anything done because the attack line collapsed around him.

After the first punt of the game, QB Geno Smith went to work for the Seahawks and made mincemeat of the mix of the Browns defense that was on the field, completing passes of 25, 9 and 7 yards before finishing things off with a 21-yard touchdown pass to WR DK Metcalf in the left corner of the end zone when the defensive back fell down.

On the Browns’ next offensive play, Winston was successful with passes of 23, 6 and 19 yards to the wide receiver. Cedric Tillman. A 7-yard pass to the WR Elijah Moore set up a 4th and 2 at the 12-yard line. Cleveland tried, but Winston’s pass to WR Jamari Thrash in the back left corner of the end zone was in front of him, resulting in a turnover on downs.

The Browns defense forced a three-and-out on their next drive, and the ensuing punt helped QB Dorian Thompson Robinson a good starting position. On third and fifth attempts from the halfway line, DTR found Thrash completely free, who crossed the field and made it 19 yards to the Seahawks’ 31-yard line on the last play of the quarter.

2nd quarter

The Browns’ offense sputtered at the beginning of the second quarter, so K Dustin Hopkins came for a 37-yard field goal to cut the Seahawks lead to 7-3.

Seattle struck quickly on its next drive and made the Browns’ substitute RB look ridiculous Kenny McIntosh took a handoff to the left side for 56 yards and a touchdown, including a stiff arm on S Chase WilliamsThis gave Seattle a 14-3 lead.

The big plays continued in the second quarter as DTR responded with a 45-yard touchdown pass to Thrash deep up the middle, cutting the gap to 14-10.

A 73-yard touchdown pass from Seattle was then cancelled by an offensive holding penalty. Howell still got the Seahawks into Cleveland territory, but it required a 58-yard field goal from K. Jason Myers to score points. He converted the ball and increased the score to 17-10.

After a three-and-out by Cleveland, Seattle’s strong performance on special teams continued as D’Wayne Eskridge returned the punt 79 yards for a touchdown, making the game 24-10.

Before the end of the half, DTR made a few nice shots to get Cleveland close to scoring, but some penalties and other mistakes slowed the attack. K Lucas Havrisik came anyway and scored from 49 yards out, making the score 24-13 at halftime.

3rd quarter

Seattle got the ball early in the third quarter and Myers made a 47-yard field goal, making the game 27-13. QB Tyler Huntley came on for Cleveland in the second half, but started with a three-and-out. PJ Walker He then entered the game for the Seahawks and attempted a fourth-and-1 run from their own 35-yard line. The Browns defense prevented the run and led to a loss of possession.

This left the Browns with a short field and several plays later Huntley found WR James Proche for a 6-yard touchdown pass, making the game 27-20.

Walker was intercepted on the next drive, but the play was negated by a roughing the passer call against LB. Jeremiah Martin. A few games later, RB George Holani scored a touchdown from 1 yard out, giving Seattle a 34-20 lead.

A 37-yard pass from Huntley to WR Jaelon Darden gave the Browns good field position for the final quarter of the game.

4th quarter

Huntley found WR Michael Woods for a 12-yard touchdown on the first play of the fourth quarter, making the game 34-26. The Browns attempted two, but the attempt failed as Huntley was sacked.

Midway through the fourth quarter, Myers scored another field goal from 45 yards out to extend the lead to 37-26.

Huntley put the Browns under pressure in the final moments of the game, but didn’t rush too much to score two points. With eight seconds left, Huntley found Woods in the back left corner of the end zone in what was probably the best throw-and-catch highlight of the preseason. The game was tied 37-33, but Cleveland gave up an onside kick and ended the game.
