Real Texans say beans are not allowed in chili

We discussed chili a lot on last morning’s show, especially how much we all love Wendy’s chili! It’s probably some of the best fast food chili out there!

Of course, some people called and said that other great restaurants in El Paso, like Frisco Burger, have pretty good chili, which I don’t doubt! But then we learned that Wendy’s chili will soon be in stores, and that changed everything!

I grew up in a Mexican household, so chili wasn’t exactly a staple in our diet. When we did eat chili, it was either at Wendy’s or a restaurant. Apparently these places didn’t realize that chili can’t have beans in it, because I can assure you, they definitely put beans in their chili!

According to Daily Meal there is a saying: “If you know anything about chili, you know that chili doesn’t contain beans.” And in Texas, where chili was supposedly originally made without beans, when you order a “bowl of red” you know you mean chili without beans!

Okay, I didn’t know there was such a thing! I know they sell cans of chili and you have the option of beans or no beans, but I never knew that in Texas you can’t eat it with beans!

I like beans in my chili, so I guess that doesn’t make me a true Texan, but I also eat my chili with sour cream and a side of cornbread; if you’re telling me not to put cornbread in it, we’ve got a problem.
