John Gotti III made it to the final bell against Floyd Mayweather in an eight-round exhibition fight at the Arena CDMX in Mexico City, Mexico. The fight was not officially scored, so no official winner was declared, but it is safe to say that Money defeated Gotti.
Even without scorecards, DAZN declared him the winner.
From the start of the fight, Mayweather attracted the attention of some of boxing’s biggest stars.
And it didn’t take long for things to get bizarre. After the first fight between Mayweather and Gotti was stopped early due to trash talking, Mayweather took no chances and replaced the referee in the fight during the second round.
Mayweather controlled the pace and location of the fight well with his defense, often luring Gotti into the ropes and frustrating him with his head movements while occasionally firing a hook back to the body.
As the fight progressed, Money actually offered more opportunities, occasionally firing off a few combinations when Gotti left gaps.
The fight finally ended the rivalry between the legendary boxer and the grandson of American crime boss John Gotti. Their first fight was scheduled to take place in June 2023, but was stopped in the sixth round due to excessive trash talk.
The result was a frustrated Gotti hitting Mayweather after the fight and chaos breaking out in the arena.
Fortunately, this time there was no too much drama.
Even after his retirement, Mayweather is still finding ways to make money from his boxing skills. The 47-year-old has now fought eight exhibition fights since his last official fight against Conor McGregor in 2017.
Although these were non-scoring fights, Mayweather either knocked out his opponent or clearly won by decision in each of them.
As long as Mayweather is willing to put on his gloves, he will continue to attract the attention of other fighters. UFC champion Sean O’Malley was the latest in a long line of fighters who called to fight with Mayweather.
In today’s age of influencer fights and unconventional main event fights with big money being spent, it would not be a surprise if Mayweather participated in at least one more major exhibition fight.
