Sierra Gutierrez, a lifelong Southern California resident and regional director for Premier America Credit Union, was honored with the Milton M. Teague Award for outstanding community volunteerism at the United Way of Ventura County Spirit Awards on August 15.

The award is given to area individuals for outstanding community service and preserving the legacy of the three founders of the United Way of Ventura County in 1945.

Gutierrez is currently serving her fifth term on the UWVC board, and the impact of her work is felt throughout the community, Premier America officials said.

“This award for Sierra is simply further proof of her tireless commitment to the community,” said Rudy Pereira, President and CEO of Premier America. “She embodies our core value of giving back, whether it’s in the form of time to our team or time and talent to the community.”

Premier America is one of California’s largest credit unions, with more than 20 branches in Southern California and Houston, Texas. Founded in 1957, the nonprofit financial cooperative has roots throughout the community and is the official credit union partner of CSU Northridge.

In addition to her day-to-day management duties, Gutierrez maintains relationships with businesses in the area to improve the financial situation of the organizations’ employees and volunteers.

“I am honored to receive the Milton M. Teague Award. I am grateful for the opportunity Premier America has provided me to be part of a great organization. United Way of Ventura County brings community members together and focuses on improving lives by inspiring and mobilizing the caring power and resources of our community,” said Gutierrez, who joined Premier America in 2009.

Gutierrez received her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a minor in Economics in 2008 and an MBA in 2010. She earned both degrees from CSU Channel Islands.

Ernesto Norona, senior vice president and chief operating officer of Premier America, praised Gutierrez’s passion and dedication to the community.

“She works not only with our members and team members to inspire change, but also in the community. Her work actively and measurably contributes to improving the well-being of the community,” he said.

Gutierrez was honored earlier this summer by the Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce as one of the region’s “40 Under Forty.”
