Mexico’s national airline is launching daily flights between Miami (MIA) and Cancun (CUN), expanding the already crowded market for flights between the two cities.

Here you can find out everything you need to know about the route.

Daily flights begin on December 19

According to Ishrion Aviation, Aeromexico will fly daily between Miami and Cancun on X.

The flights start on 19 December and is operated with the Boeing 737 MAX 8, which Aeromexico uses on short and medium-haul routes. The 737 MAX is a 3-cabin aircraft with 16 Clase Premier, 18 AM Plus and 132 Economy seats.

Crowded market from South Florida to Cancun

Cancun is one of the most popular destinations in Latin America for U.S. travelers, and for good reason. Thanks to pleasant weather, cheap flights and hotels, and proximity to many American hubs, Cancun draws millions of tourists to its white-sand beaches each year.

Aeromexico will join a handful of U.S. airlines that already fly to Cancun.

Several airlines offer flights from the Miami area (which includes nearby Fort Lauderdale) to Cancun. American Airlines offers several daily flights from Miami to Cancun, while JetBlue Airways offers flights from Fort Lauderdale. Budget carrier Spirit Airlines also flies seasonally from Fort Lauderdale.

In addition, four airlines – American, Delta Air Lines, JetBlue and United Airlines – fly nonstop from the USA to nearby Tulum (TQO).

Regardless of which airline you choose, flights to Cancun are usually dirt cheap. This applies regardless of whether you pay with cash or with points and miles. On average, cash prices are $250 round trip economy class.

Cancun is one of the best places to book economy tickets with points and miles. Here’s what you can expect to pay if you fly from Miami or Fort Lauderdale:

Final thoughts

This is an interesting move for Aeromexico, especially given that several airlines are already present on this route.

Still, the new route is ideal for Aeromexico, as Cancun is Mexico’s second-busiest airport (after Mexico City), so it only makes sense that Mexico’s leading airline would offer flights between the two cities.
