“A great way to meet people”: Scranton Social Sports is looking for players for kickball and dodgeball

Kevin Lepka founded S3 Scranton Social Sports LLC in 2023 to give adults a way to stay active and socialize.

“Dodgeball was a little intense at times,” he said of last year’s leagues. “But that’s what you expect from a competitive sport.”

Lepka is also a comedian and owner of the Scranton Comedy Club. As a referee, he reminds everyone that the focus is on having fun.

He is currently putting together teams for dodgeball and kickball leagues that begin next month. Players can sign up with friends or as a free agent.

“If you’re new to the area, this is a great way to meet people,” Lepka said.

The dodgeball league plays on Tuesday evenings at the Jewish Community Center in Scranton, 601 Jefferson Ave. The dodgeball teams consist of eight people.

The kickball league begins on September 11th and registration closes on August 28th. The league plays on Wednesdays at Connell Park, 800 Gibbons St., Scranton. Teams consist of a minimum of nine people.

The leagues are aimed at people aged 18 and over and Lepka says a lot of different people have shown interest.

“We had some college students who are in their early 20s,” he said. “We even had a team of women in their 50s and 60s who formed a dodgeball team. So that was a lot of fun.”

Players are guaranteed seven weeks of play. The finals take place in the eighth week of the league.
