Zoé Kravitz reveals Channing Tatum ‘swallowed pool water’ at party in Mexico; says he kept ‘puking’

Channing Tatum recently recounted a funny but awkward incident that occurred while promoting his new film Blink Twice in Mexico. The film, directed by Zoë Kravitz, is described as being similar to Get Out.

In a Buzzfeed interview, Kravitz recalled a time when Tatum and his co-star Simon Rex wrestled in a pool at a party. She mentioned that the two actors ended up swallowing some pool water, which led to a mishap. Tatum confirmed that it was an unfortunate mishap and revealed that he spent 12 hours on the toilet as a result. “All I could do was sit on the toilet,” he said, wincing at the dark side of their water escapades.

“Remember when we had that party, Chan, and you and Simon were wrestling in the pool and swallowing pool water?” recalls Kravitz, 35. “But we were in Mexico and you puked.”

“For 12 hours,” Tatum, 44, added with a blank expression on his face. “I couldn’t leave the bathroom.”

Channing Tatum’s experience with the bathroom ordeal in Mexico, where a doctor had to give him a shot, may have been a severe case of Montezuma’s revenge, a term that refers to a gastrointestinal illness that affects travelers and is usually caused by contaminated food or water.

“The doctor had to come and give me a shot in the butt to make everything right again,” Tatum said.

“It was a great party,” Kravitz joked, laughing.

According to the University of Indiana, symptoms of Montezuma’s Revenge are usually diarrhea, but also stomach cramps, bloating, nausea, vomiting and fever. Kravitz’s commentary on the party adds a humorous twist to the fact that Tatum’s discomfort made the episode quite unforgettable.

Mexican tap water is generally undrinkable and even locals avoid drinking it. Travelers like Channing Tatum, who had a high fever and other symptoms, should follow safety measures and avoid tap water and ice made from it.

The shot Tatum received likely contained antibiotics or other medications for his gastrointestinal problems. According to the Mayo Clinic, a doctor may prescribe antibiotics for severe cases of gastroenteritis, which can often include watery stools, fever or blood in the stool.

To avoid gastrointestinal problems on future trips, it is advisable to drink only bottled water and avoid ice, which may come from questionable water sources. The Mayo Clinic also advises seeking medical attention if loose stools occur more than four times a day, or if severe symptoms such as fever occur, or if blood, pus or mucus are present in the stool.
