A unique outdoor art installation, Razzle Dazzle, is being created in Sioux City

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – The Razzle Dazzle art installation is a community effort that began over a year ago.

New York-based artist Amanda Browder began this project 18 months ago, asking the public to donate unused fabric and time to help sew this “vast and unforgettable work of art.”

According to a press release, hundreds of volunteers answered that call and donated thousands of hours to cut, pin and sew fabric at public sewing days at the Art Center and other locations in Siouxland.

Fabrics from Razzle Dazzle will cover large portions of the Sioux City Art Center and Gilchrist Learning Center.

The installation will premiere at ArtSplash on Labor Day weekend and will be on display through Halloween.

Browder hopes Razzle Dazzle will change the way people view the buildings they see every day.

“It’s easy to take buildings for granted, especially when you drive by them. When you add something that’s visually very bright and striking, you become more aware of what you see on a regular basis,” Browder said. “It changes people’s whole concept of their daily environment. When work is gone, the building is still there, but it looks different – it’s charged. My bright, colorful pieces add energy to the buildings even when work is gone.”

Browder is based in Brooklyn and has created over 25 large-scale fabric installations worldwide. She works with local community groups and sources her fabrics from local donations.
