“State-of-the-art” self-service supermarket opens Monday on Broadway in Minot

MINOT, N.D. (KMOT) — Shoppers usually provide their payment method when they check out, but now the Magic City has a new self-service store where you pay as you enter.

The Enerbase C-Store at South Broadway Cenex is the first of its kind in the state.

Although there are many other self-service kiosks, nothing beats an expanded convenience store with a gas station.

The store has 233 cameras that can track what is taken out or put back.

Next to the store is a full-service gas station.

“While you’re filling up, you can pick up your things here,” said general manager Ricky Aberle.

The closest store of this type is located in Denver.

Families or groups only need to scan a credit card when entering.

While most areas of the store are unmanned, there will still be staff on hand to supervise tobacco purchases or assist with any problems.

“It makes things easier, but sometimes people get nervous when something new happens. On the other hand, it’s also quite attractive,” Aberle said.

The store is a local business and has been in existence since 1928.

Management said they plan to enhance the experience with a drive-through option in the future.

The store opens on August 26th.
