And at the top of the best-selling books was Duplessis Streetby Jean-Philippe Pleau, The Ink Boyby Marie-Christine Chartier, as well asasbestosby Sébastien Dulude.
Launched in 2014, the initiative has increased sales of Québec books by a factor of eleven compared to the four previous Mondays, according to data from the Société de gestion de la banque de titres de langue française (BTLF).
The organization that tracks sales in independent bookstores noted a “spectacular” rush for Quebec novels, with sales 17 times higher than usual. For comics and young adult books, we are talking about sales that multiplied by seven and six times respectively.
On the Renaud-Bray/Archambault side, sales of Quebec books have almost quadrupled compared to a “normal” Monday in August, notes Floriane Claveau, communications director.
Not only does the movement not seem to be slowing down, she adds, we are also seeing titles that are not new releases among the top 10 bestsellers – either What I know about you (by Eric Chacour), Where I hide (by Caroline Dawson), The version that nobody cares about (by Emmanuelle Pierrot) and May our joy remain (Kev Lambert).
