Obituary for Arthur “Art” Mealer 2024

Arthur “Art” Mealer, age 86, of Paris, Tennessee, died Friday, August 23, 2024, at Henry County Healthcare Center in Paris, Tennessee.

Art was born on October 18, 1937 in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Hilliard Mealer and the late Lida O’Guin Mealer.

He and his family moved to Obion, Tennessee in 1947, and he graduated from Cloverdale High School in 1955. He enlisted in the United States Air Force and served from 1957 to 1960. Art worked as a warehouse foreman at Jewel Food Stores for 36 years. He was a talented oil painter. He loved writing, once had a blog, and later wrote on Facebook in hopes of leading people to Christ. Art also wrote two books: The Harvest Principle and God, Reward, and Punishment: Are They Real? He loved people, animals, and God.

On January 30, 1959, he married Inge Mealer, whom he had met in Germany and to whom he was married for 60 years. She died before him on April 26, 2019. Art is now reunited with his beloved Inge.

He is survived by his son Walter “Tom” (Debby) Mealer of Benton, KY, his brother Earl (Sandy) Mealer of Puryear, TN, four grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, a daughter, Donna Putnam, and two sons, Craig Mealer and Kevin Mealer.

Arrangements are being handled by the Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap St., Paris, TN, 38242. Cremation will be arranged; memorial services will be held at a later date.
