Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor Stars in The Supremes at Earl’s All-You-Can-Eatthe new movie streaming on Hulu on Friday.

The Oscar nominee spoke to ABC Audio at the Disney Upfront event in May and said the film is about lifelong friendships between women.

“It’s about (this) group of women who save each other through their relationships,” Ellis-Taylor said. “They have this life when they’re younger, and when they grow up they have to save each other. It’s a great story about sisterhood and female friendships being the best.”

Ellis-Taylor said the film is not just about wonderful women, but also stars “some really wonderful women.”

“The iconic Sanaa Lathan and the Emmy Award winner Uzo Aduba and a number of other young women for whom – I think these are some of their first films,” Ellis-Taylor said.

The sisterhood and strong bonds extended beyond the roles they played. Ellis-Taylor said she held all of her co-stars in high regard, but she always had “huge respect” for Lathan in particular.

“Sanaa and I graduated at the same time,” Ellis-Taylor said. “Even though we weren’t friends, I felt a connection with her because we followed similar paths in that respect. But I just have so much respect for them because they’re all so brilliant.”
