Leye Adenle and Abubabar Adam Ibrahim are on the longlist for the CANEX Prize

The longlist for the inaugural CANEX Prize for Publishing in Africa has been announced, showcasing the diverse and talented voices that shape the vibrant publishing landscape across the continent.

“This first edition featured 85 titles from 45 publishers from 10 African countries,” said a statement from the organizers. Submissions were received in English, Portuguese, Swahili and French, according to the statement, and showcased the great diversity of voices and stories that make up African publishing.

The range of themes and narrative styles presented is a testament to the diversity and dynamism of the African publishing industry.

Longlisted titles include Richard Calland and Mabel Sitholes The Presidents… From Mandela to Ramaphosa, leadership in the age of crisis by Penguin Random House SA, Pumla Dineo Gqola’s Female Fear Factory: Decoding the Cultures of Violence in Patriarchy by Cassava Republic Press and Abubakar Ibrahims When we were fireflies by Masobe Books.

The CANEX Prize for Publishing in Africa aims to shine a spotlight on the rich diversity of African literature and support the continent’s publishing industry. The shortlist will be announced in the coming weeks and the winner will be announced at a gala event in October.
