The Update | Air Force Ensemble in Concert; Scott Pergande Art Exhibition, Sale

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Heritage Winds, a woodwind ensemble of the U.S. Air Force Heritage of America Band, will perform a free concert at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 15 at Ford Family Recital Hall.

Tickets are available starting today by calling 330.259.9651, in person at the DeYor Performing Arts Center box office downtown, and at deyorpac.org. A limit of four tickets per order is available.

Heritage Winds is comprised of professional airmen whose commitment to excellence has earned them worldwide recognition and military awards. Their modern and innovative approach to the classical woodwind ensemble delivers a musical story full of energy and rooted in patriotic spirit.

The program includes classical chamber music, newly commissioned works and creative arrangements of new pop music standards, while also honoring American veterans.

Founded in 1941, Heritage Winds has a long tradition of promoting patriotism and strengthening esprit de corps in all branches of the U.S. military. The musicians are stationed at Joint Base Langley-Eustis in Hampton, Virginia, and travel throughout much of the East Coast, performing over 350 events annually.

Celebrating the art of Scott Pergande

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Honeycomb Arts and Wellness Collective presents “Looking Back and Reaching Forward, an Art Celebration” in honor of local artist Scott Pergande on Saturday, August 24, at 7 p.m. at the Studios of Coy Cornelius and Judy Rogers, 1931 Belmont Ave.

The event includes a performance by Youngstown Dance Collective at 7:30 p.m. and Black Wolf & The Thief at 8:00 p.m.

Pergande is known for his masks, paintings, furniture and garden sculptures. His art and that of local artists Joyce Bielik, Jim Traficant, Richard Murray, John Axe and Chris Yambar are on display and available for purchase.

Audition for the youth production of “Puffs”

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Auditions for the Youngstown Playhouse youth theater production of “Puffs, or 7 Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic” will be held September 4 and 5 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Children aged 10 to 17 are sought for the main roles, and adults are sought for the teacher roles and various other roles. Actors should be prepared to read from the script. Rehearsal times are yet to be determined but will normally be Monday to Thursday.

“Puffs” by Matt Cox is a parody of the “Harry Potter” novels by JK Rowling.

Holborn Herb Growers present annual tea

BOARDMAN, Ohio – The Holborn Herb Growers Guild’s annual tea party will be held Sunday, Sept. 22, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Lariccia Family Community Center in Boardman Park, 375 Boardman-Poland Road.

The event will feature a variety of herbal teas as well as savory and sweet treats. Guests can also tour the Summer Kitchen herb garden behind the St. James Meeting House in the park. Guest speaker Robb Coonce, owner of Full Circle Florist, will talk about floral arrangements.

As a souvenir of the event, each attendee will receive a gift of tea cups and saucers. There will also be raffles for baskets and a drawing for Komara Jewelers door prizes.

The Holborn Herb Growers Guild was founded in 1982 with the goal of educating its members and the public about the use and enjoyment of herbs. To that end, the Guild has established public herb gardens in the Western Reserve Village at the Canfield Fairgrounds and the Summer Kitchen Gardens in Boardman Park.
