Voters gather for the Democratic National Convention election party in Raleigh

RALEIGH, NC (WTVD) – On Thursday evening – the final night of the Democratic National Convention – the atmosphere at the Goodwin House in Raleigh was energetic.

Many voters at the election party hope that Vice President Kamala Harris will win in November. They also expressed their anticipation of Governor Cooper introducing Harris and hearing her speech.

One of the participants, 39-year-old Griffin Rodes, is very happy about Harris’ nomination. He said he was still afraid of the election until a few weeks ago.

“I’ve been doing this since I was eight years old. My grandfather was very involved in the Democratic Party,” he said. “He would take me with him to put up our signs for Jim Hunt. It’s just great to carry on the family tradition.”

Among the guests were several families like the Rouses. For Latosha Rouse, the evening was about representing, being together and showing her children what the future could look like.

“I just wanted them to be part of the party and part of history and for them to be here and be happy for Kamala and be part of this moment,” she said. “It means so much to see yourself in your representatives. Seeing her up there meant everything to me and I want to be a part of it.”

The Rouse family says the economic situation is a major problem and that they want to focus on this issue.

Although there were protesters against the war in Gaza, this did not and did not disrupt the event.
