ALIQUIPPA – Beaver County’s diverse hobbyists will be showcased in “My Elevated Hobby,” an art exhibit at the 27th annual Aliquippa Art and Music Festival on Aug. 31.

The exhibit includes one-of-a-kind quilts, money boxes, dollhouses, puzzles, paintings, textile art and adult coloring pages. The exhibit is at The Broadcast, 464 Franklin Ave.

Organizers say anticipation is building for the festival, which will be held at the Franklin Center of Beaver County downtown on Franklin Avenue, a day of vibrant art, food, live music and exciting activities.

The festival begins at noon in Franklin Avenue Park, next to the Aliquippa Police Station. Attendees can expect a bustling marketplace with food trucks, drinks, and various vendors selling merchandise. Seating is available, but attendees are asked to bring lawn chairs.

The festival runs from 12:00pm to 6:30pm and admission is free. Live performances on the main stage take place throughout the day, starting at 12:00pm. Featured artists include award-winning blues band Billy the Kid and the Regulators, international R&B/Gospel artist Janine Gilbert-Carter, the Red Band and United Praise.

Returning for the second year is “The Unknown Singer,” a fun event where festival-goers can win prizes by guessing the identities of local personalities and musicians performing anonymously backstage. Additionally, attendees are invited to The Broadcast, a block away, to go “Sailing at the Hoedown” with Shawnda W., a country line dancing instructor. Attendees are welcome to bring their cowboy boots, hats, vests and jeans.

“We are thrilled to bring people from across Beaver County together for a day of fun and relaxation,” said Cheryl King, executive director of the Franklin Center. “This year is especially special because 2024 marks the start of the Franklin Center’s 40th anniversary year. The festival kicks off a year-long series of special events celebrating our four decades of serving the Beaver County community.”

The Franklin Center of Beaver County is a nonprofit social services agency that has served over 170,000 Beaver County residents over the past 40 years. Sponsors for this year’s festival include the Community College of Beaver County, Mayor Kenya Johns of Beaver Falls and Uncommon Grounds Café.
