When you take a road trip through Texas, you’ll quickly realize how vast the country is. After hours of driving, it’s not uncommon to find yourself nowhere near the Lone Star State, so good road trip snacks are an absolute must.

Luckily, Texans have found a solution to this problem: a pit stop destination that puts all other road trip stops to shame. Not only does it have an iconic selection of snacks and groceries, but it also has 120 gas pumps and a beaver mascot. If you’re from the South, you probably already know exactly what I’m talking about: the iconic Texas convenience store, Buc-ee’s.

What is Buc-ee’s?

If you’re not familiar with Buc-ee’s, here’s what you should know. Buc-ee’s is a chain of gas stations in the United States. But its famously clean restrooms and Texas road trip special make it more than a small convenience store. The gas station is so iconic that it’s against the law not to stop at Buc-ee’s during a Texas road trip. OK, not really. But why would you avoid a massive supermarket with a seemingly endless supply of Beaver merch and barbecue sandwiches?

As someone who grew up in Texas, I’ve made many runs to Buc-ee’s. Although the chain is known for its legendary Beaver Nuggets, there’s another Buc-ee’s snack that tops them in my opinion. It’s so good that I’d eat this divine combination even when I’m not on a road trip. While I only stopped by Buc-ee’s to stock up, not everyone is lucky enough to live near a Buc-ee’s. Thankfully, it’s incredibly easy to make at home.

Buc-ees Peanut Butter Blast Trail Mix is my favorite road trip snack

If I’m guilty of anything, it’s picking all the M&Ms and peanuts out of a bag of trail mix until all that’s left is a bag of random nuts and raisins. It’s none other than Buc-ee’s to finally solve that problem.

Buc-ee’s Peanut Butter Blast Trail Mix is a snack worth hours of driving through Texas. It’s incredibly delicious, but nothing crazy: This snack is a trail mix made entirely of peanut butter-flavored snacks. In other words, it’s a trail mix where I can enjoy every single element.

For someone who loves peanut butter to death, this trail mix is a dream. All six ingredients in this mix are worth their place: peanuts, honey roasted peanuts, peanut butter chips, peanut butter candies, mini peanut butter cups, and peanut butter covered pretzel balls. Some would say that’s too much peanut butter. I say there is no such thing.

I can’t think of a better road trip snack. Each bite is perfectly salty, sweet and nutty. Pair it with a Coke and you have the perfect way to pass the time.

But I don’t want to wait until I drive by a Buc-ee’s to grab a bag (or two) of this delicious treat, and I bet you feel the same. Luckily for us, this concoction only has six ingredients and is super easy to make at home.

How to Make Buc-ees Peanut Butter Blast Trail Mix at Home

Making trail mix doesn’t need much explanation. Once you have all the ingredients, put them in a bowl, mix them together, and you’re good to go. What I must add, however, is that this special treat from Buc-ee’s can be recreated using ingredients found only at the popular grocery store Trader Joe’s.

My love for TJ’s is no secret, but the store has never let me down – even when I’ve had a craving for my favorite gas station treat. If you’re looking for the ingredients for Peanut Butter Blast Trail Mix, look no further than your nearest TJ’s. Not only do they have honey-roasted peanuts, they often have mini peanut butter cups. While they don’t have peanut butter-covered pretzel balls, they do have pretzel nuggets that come pretty close.

Other grocery stores may have similar ingredients. Grab some peanuts, Reese’s Pieces, pretzels, and peanut butter chips and I’d say you’re on the right track.

With my last road trip behind me, I’m already craving another bag of trail mix. Looks like I’ll have to put this TJ’s recipe to the test. My version may not have a beaver’s seal of approval, but it’s close enough for me.
