Mail Call: St. John’s quiet cycle, Syracuse’s chances with Lewis

It is still quite early in the recruitment of both Hudson Greer And Darius AdamsBut slowly the picture becomes clear enough to select a small group of “serious players” for each case.

As I made a few calls asking for Adams’ perspective, I heard the names most closely associated with the five-star guard: Alabama, Tennessee And State of Michigan. Determining the order of these three programs is a little tricky though, as Adams himself may not have a ranking in his head yet. However, current information I have gathered suggests that these three programs will be in the running until the end, and it seems quite likely that one of the three programs will ultimately be selected.

As for Greer, I would say Arizona as narrow leader for now with Kansas is just behind and within striking distance. The Jayhawks and Wildcats are battling for the top spot, but I was also told UConn is an outsider that could make a move depending on how Greer’s official visit to Storrs on Oct. 11 goes. Right now, I see it as a top 2 that could later become a top 3, with the order being Arizona, Kansas and UConn. It seems highly unlikely that any program other than those three will land the four-star wing.

Well, it is certainly not an ideal development for the Orange. The good news is that rumors about UConn’s move from Meleek Thomas To Academic Lewis are extremely superficial, as the reasons for them seem unclear at this time. However, if the defending champions do indeed intend to drop Thomas to pursue Lewis – a rumor I have not been able to independently confirm – the Huskies will be Syracuse hold back.

The market for Lewis is getting more crowded by the week, which is obviously not good news for a Syracuse program looking to show a sustained upward trend under his second year as head coach. Adrian Autrywho won 20 games but missed the NCAA Tournament in his debut season. I won’t rule ‘Cuse out as there is serious mutual interest, but Autry and Co. will have an uphill battle ahead of them, to say the least.

The harsh but obvious truth is that Syracuse hasn’t qualified for the NCAA tournament since 2021. When the zero-totals are anywhere near the same, it’s going to be tough to compete with the big guys.

The only candidate I know of for 2025 St. John’s has achieved four-star guard Kayden Mingobut it’s been a while since I’ve heard anything about him and the Johnnies. Head Coach Rick Pitino was a bit scarce on base this season and was conspicuous by his absence from Peach Jam. People I spoke to in New York this week have hypothesized that the Red Storm will either rely heavily on international talent or the transfer portal this cycle before making heavier high school transfers with the Class of 2026.
