A pile-up near Starbucks on John Wayne Parkway at Smith-Enke Road blocks the way out of the city – and this on the first day of the Pumpkin Spice Latte season.

The crash, which involved a white Toyota Highlander SUV, a company van belonging to Phoenix-based ATI Restoration and at least one other vehicle, occurred around 1:45 p.m. The northbound lanes are closed.

Cars heading north out of town were diverted to Smith-Enke Road at 2:15 p.m.

Tow trucks remove the damaged cars from the intersection, the busiest in the city.

InMaricopa has reached out to Maricopa Deputy City Manager Jennifer Brown for comment. She is working with Maricopa police to determine the cause of the accident and whether there are any injuries.

The Maricopa Fire Department and Health Department are also on site.

This is a breaking news story and will be updated as new information becomes available.
