It’s mushroom season in the mountains – The Durango Herald

Thanks to warm temperatures and monsoon rains, mushrooms are plentiful on the ground in the San Juan National Forest

Thanks to warm temperatures and monsoon rains, mushrooms are plentiful on the forest floor, some edible and some not growing on Monday. Those who want to collect more than a pound of mushrooms in the San Juan National Forest can get a free permit at the local district office. A permit can also be purchased for $20 while collecting to sell them or collect more than 10 pounds. Obtaining a permit helps document the use of forest resources, and proceeds will go toward restoration work in the forest, according to a Forest Service news release. (Jerry McBride/Durango Herald)
