Canaries hit 5 home runs in big win over DockHounds and stay in first place in division

SIOUX FALLS, SD (Dakota News Now) – The Canaries hit five home runs to earn an 11-7 win over Lake Country on Thursday.

Drew Mount hit a single to start the first inning and Mike Hart brought him home with a double. The DockHounds took the lead with two solo home runs in the fourth inning, but Hart answered with a solo home run in the bottom half.

Lake Country used another solo home run in the fifth inning to retake the lead before the Birds responded with four runs in the second half as Mount and Jabari Henry each hit two home runs.

The DockHounds took a 7-6 lead again with a grand slam in the sixth inning, but Sioux Falls scored the next five runs to take the lead for good. The Canaries tied the game with a solo hit by Ernny Ordonez in the bottom half and scored four more runs in the seventh inning. Hart hit another RBI double and Josh Rehwaldt followed with a sacrifice fly before Trevor Achenbach hit a two-run home run.

Mount and Hart each finished with three hits, while Zach Veen threw 1 2/3 scoreless, hitless relief innings to earn the win.

The Birds are currently 44-33 and host Milwaukee for a four-game series that begins at 5:05 p.m. Friday.
