BoJack Horseman creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg announces new series “Long Story Short”

Ten years ago, a comedy about an anthropomorphic horse trying to revive his failed sitcom career changed the landscape of adult animation forever. Now the team behind BoJack Horsemanled by acclaimed creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg and Michael Eisner’s The Tornante Company, along with Shadowmachine, returns to Netflix with their next adult animated series. Long story short, which will debut in 2025.

Bob-Waksberg will write the screenplay and serve as executive producer Long story short. The logline of the series is: “Long story short is an animated comedy about a family across time. It’s about the history they share, the inside jokes, the old wounds. If you’ve ever had a mother, father, sibling, partner or child, this show is for you – and by the way, would it kill you to call them?”

Bob-Waksberg told Netflix in a press release, “It’s really exciting and an honor to be back doing what I love most: writing glowing quotes for press releases to Hollywood trade publications. Who says you can’t go home again?!”

Celebrated as one of the best TV shows of all time, BoJack Horseman made history when it debuted on August 22, 2014 as Netflix’s first original animated series. The award-winning series broke new ground and raised the bar for satire and emotional depth. The aging title character, a horse (voice: Will Arnett), strives for relevance in fictionalized Hollywood while battling addiction and coming to terms with his own toxic behavior and massive ego. BoJack’s stable of human and animal friends includes unemployed roommate Todd Chavez (Aaron Paul), his frenemy Mr. Peanutbutter (Paul F. Tompkins), agent and ex-girlfriend Princess Carolyn (Amy Sedaris), and ghostwriter Diane Nguyen (Alison Brie).

In contrast to the fictional series within the series Fooling around, BoJack has not struggled to remain relevant and has more than one Foal followed by a series of risqué adult animated series on Netflix that appeared later – Big mouth, ArcaneAnd Blue-Eyed Samuraito name just a few.

Long story short will be the BoJack Team. Lisa Hanawalt (BoJack Horseman, Tuca and Bertie) is executive producer and will create the original art. Noel Bright and Steven A. Cohen (BoJack Horseman, Tuca & Bertie, Undone) will serve as executive producer for Tornante Television. ShadowMachine (BoJack Horseman, Tuca & Bertie, Pinocchio)produced from their animation studio in LA. Corey Campodonico and Alex Bulkley serve as co-executive producers.
