John Cena named Roman Reigns the GOAT of the WWE ahead of The Rock and said it was “amazing” that he had an “active talent” at this point.
John Cena has announced that he will retire from wrestling in 2025 and begin his WWE farewell tour this year.
During an appearance at Club Shay Shay, Cena was asked who he would name as the GOAT of the WWE. He said:
“My goodness, that’s a good question. I don’t think there’s a better example of the best the business has ever achieved than Roman Reigns.
“And it’s incredible that I’m saying that a talent who is still active and has many years ahead of him is the greatest of all time.”
Cena then explained the logic behind his decision and stated:
“He’s been here since 2012. I had to work my way up. I started on the bench, then came into the Saturday program and lost every game.
“He came in with the Shield in a high-profile position and never wavered, even when the fans didn’t like him. He was still in the main event. He’s been the focus of the main event for over a decade now.”
He reflected on WWE’s financial growth while Reigns was in that position, noting:
“And he did it – and you can say whatever forces helped – but in 2012 the stock was $11. The WWE or TKO stock is now $117. That’s on his shoulders. And I know it’s a team effort, nobody does it alone. … That’s serious crap.”
Cena called The Rock the second greatest fighter in WWE history and noted that he accomplished the same things as Reigns in the 90s.
However, according to Cena, Reigns has had better “numbers” than The Rock in their respective generations.
Roman Reigns recently returned to WWE SmackDown and feuded with the Solo Sikoa-led version of The Bloodline.
It has been reported that Reigns and The Bloodline’s storyline will culminate in a WarGames match at WWE Survivor Series in November 2024.
