Green County Genealogical Society meeting September 7th

MONROE – On September 7, the Green County Genealogical Society (GCGS) will hold its monthly meeting at 10 a.m. in the second floor meeting room of the Monroe Public Library.

This month’s feature is “Ellis Island: A Brief History, Including the Immigration Process” by Jean Lythgoe.

Lythgoe has found interesting information about the island and the name changes over the years. Her presentation will include a brief history of the island as an entry point for immigrants, the history of immigration to the United States, and places where people can look for more information.

Lythgoe has worked in the local history and genealogy department of the Rockford Public Library since 2006. She attended local schools and received her Bachelor of General Studies from Northern Illinois University in December 1983. She has been interested in family history since she was a child and local history a little later. Lythgoe considers herself a generalist because you never know what the next question will be.

If you have any questions about the meeting or presentation, call Donna at 608-921-1537. The GCGS Research Center, located in the basement of the Monroe Public Library, is open to the public on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Other times are available by appointment. The phone number is 608-328-7436 and the website is www.greencogenealogywi.org.
