Second Annual Blue Streak Block Party Planned at Madison Middle School

Second Annual Blue Streak Block Party Planned at Madison Middle School

People of all ages will find plenty of opportunities to have fun at one of Madison Township’s upcoming community events.

The second annual Blue Streak Block Party will be held on August 24th from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. at Madison Middle School, 6079 Middle Ridge Road.

Highlights of the block festival include games, live music performances, food trucks and stands, a parade and a basket raffle.

This celebration is hosted by the Madison High School National Honor Society and the Madison Middle School National Junior Honor Society. The Blue Streak Block Party was created last year to give the two honor societies a chance to bond and “give back to the schools and the community at the same time,” said Emily Grau, who serves as an advisor to both groups.

Students who are members of Madison NHS and NJHS will man the gaming stations and perform other tasks at the party.

“The children get the chance to demonstrate leadership qualities and communication skills,” said Grau.

Two students from Madison High School will also perform as part of the event’s live entertainment.

Singer and songwriter Lily Heidinger will perform between 4 and 6 p.m., while Brooklyn Wesley will perform firesticks at 6:30 p.m.

“We are very excited to have some of our students in the spotlight a little more this year,” said Grau, who also teaches eighth-grade American history at Madison Middle School.

The first Blue Streak Block Party of 2023 ended after just four hours due to a torrential downpour. While party organizers are hoping for continued clear weather this year, they have also decided to use the interior of Madison Middle School for some events.

Indoor activities include a basket raffle in the school cafeteria.

Visitors can try their luck to win more than 30 gift baskets. Tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5. Winners will be announced at 6 p.m.

Some of the games for younger children will also be offered in the school’s gymnasium. Grau said strong winds at the 2023 party made it difficult for young children to play certain games.

This year’s street festival also features an inflatable fun area for children, which includes a seven-element obstacle course and a wall climbing course.

Outdoor games planned for the party include inflatable kick darts, Kan Jam, bucket golf, yard pong and spikeball.

Party guests ages 6 and up can purchase wristbands for $10 each, which give them unlimited access to games and bouncy castles.

Otherwise, tickets for these attractions can be purchased for $1 each or 6 tickets for $5. Children under 5 can play all games for free.

Food trucks and booths at the party will serve foods such as barbecued meats, tacos, kettle corn and ice cream cones. Customers are encouraged to bring cash to purchase food.

Other block party activities include:

• Noon: Parade. The procession begins at the Madison High School softball field on Burns Road, then heads south on Burns Road, west on Middle Ridge, and ends behind the Middle School.

• 2:00 p.m. – Water balloon throwing.

• 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. – Live music from the Big North Band
