Republican Geoff Duncan rejects Trump in DNC speech

Former Georgia Lieutenant Governor Geoff Duncan became the latest in a series of Republicans to rebuke their party’s candidate at the 2024 DNC.

Duncan took the podium on Wednesday and cited Republican candidate Donald Trump’s pressure campaign in Georgia as the main reason he would vote for Vice President Kamala Harris.

“Our party is behaving more like a cult these days,” Duncan said. “A cult that worships a criminal gangster.”

Duncan praised Harris’s prosecutorial stance and said a vote for her would turn Republican voters into “patriots.”

In May, Duncan endorsed then-presumptive Democratic nominee President Joe Biden.

“Trump has shown us who he is. We should believe him. To believe that he will change at age 77 is beyond improbable,” he wrote in a column in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
