Voters chose Sheriff Eric Flowers and County Commissioner Laura Moss for the November general election. Update: Staff counted votes after polls closed at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Many considered election season an election to keep an eye on. Races for sheriff, school board and county commission drew a lot of interest from voters. Voter turnout in this year’s Indian River County primary election was 34.24 percent, the election supervisor’s website shows. 40,477 votes were cast out of 118,221 registered voters, according to the 9:13 p.m. update. Former SRHS student charged after disrupting class and overturning tables

SEBASTIAN — A former Sebastian River High School student was arrested after she gained entry to school grounds Monday, walked into a classroom and began knocking over desks, sheriff’s officials said. A teacher evacuated students from the classroom when the disturbance occurred, school district officials said. “Once inside, the former student went into a teacher’s classroom where she engaged in extremely disruptive behavior,” Cristen Maddux, spokeswoman for the Indian River County School District, said in a statement. “The teacher recognized the situation, immediately notified administration and security and quickly cleared all students from the classroom to ensure their safety.” The former student, Alani Christine Palmer, 21, was charged with trespassing on school grounds and obstructing school administration. …
