CROSSLAKE – The Crosslake Art Club hosted its 39th annual Summer Art Show Aug. 8-10, and nearly 1,300 people stopped by over the three days to view new original artwork displayed by members.
The club has also been able to raise money for scholarships that it awards each spring to talented local students who are planning to pursue careers or further education in the arts. These funds come primarily from the sale of small “scholarship paintings” or pottery at the show, which are donated by Crosslake Art Club members. Donations for these scholarships are accepted year-round.
Last spring, the Crosslake Art Club awarded two $1,000 scholarships to Pequot Lakes Class of 2024 graduates Emily Schott and Olivia Laxen, who also showed their work at the recent art exhibition.
Visitors to the August show were able to vote for their favorite artwork every day. This year’s winners were:
Day one: Mary Wolke with her painting “Family Unite”. Day two: Kathi Mann with “The Bear”. Day three: Cathye Austin with her painting “Purr-fectly Content”. All of these paintings were done with acrylic paints.
This fall, the Crosslake Art Club will be featured at the Jaques Art Center in Aitkin during an exhibition from August 23 to October 12.
Anyone seeking more information about the club can contact Gail Smith at 218-831-6986. The club meets the first Monday of every month at the Crosslake Community Center. Meetings are held at 9:30 a.m. through October. During the winter, meetings are moved to 1 p.m.
