JetBlue is shaking up North American frequent flyer programs by offering elite members of competing U.S. airlines the opportunity to join the elite-level TrueBlue frequent flyer program through its Match to Mosaic program, which includes a generous three months of free perks and the option to renew membership.
Status-matching offers are common among airlines as they try to lure frequent flyers away from the competition. In the U.S., JetBlue’s competitors, including American Airlines, Delta, United, Southwest and Alaska, all operate similar programs.
JetBlue has run limited-time status matching promotions in the past, most recently welcoming a maximum of 30,000 Delta Elite members last fall after its Atlanta-based competitor controversially overhauled the way its customers earn status.
Match to Mosaic: What you need to know
Match to Mosaic will be JetBlue’s first ongoing status match offer with no registration deadline or participant cap.
It is open to travelers with elite status on Delta, United, American or Alaska. Depending on their rank in these programs, travelers will receive three months of Mosaic 1 or 2 status in JetBlue’s TrueBlue program for free:
Current airline | Mosaic 1 | Mosaic 2 |
---|---|---|
Delta Air Lines | Silver, Gold | Platinum, Diamond, Delta 360 |
Alaska Airlines | MVP, MVP Gold | MVP Gold 75,000, MVP Gold 100,000 |
American Airlines | AAdvantage Gold, AAdvantage Platinum | AAdvantage Platinum Pro, AAdvantage Executive Platinum, ConciergeKey |
United Airlines | Premier Silver, Premier Gold | Premier Platinum, Premier 1K, Global Services |
Mosaic 1 is the lowest of the four elite statuses at TrueBlue and offers benefits such as:
Two free checked bags |
Free alcoholic beverages on board (for travelers over 21) |
Free same-day flight changes |
Priority “Mosaic” boarding |
Access to expedited security screening |
Private check-in area |
Free choice of a “preferred core” seat, aisle and window seats in better positions on the aircraft, for example in the front of the cabin |
Dedicated 24/7 phone lines and priority chat support |
Complimentary upgrades to Even More Space seats with up to 7 inches more legroom at check-in, where available |
Additionally, Status Match members receive a pre-selected “Perk You Pick” benefit. For Mosaic 1 members, this means priority access to the Mint Suite selection on select aircraft.
Mosaic 2 members receive all the benefits of a regular Mosaic membership plus additional perks, including complimentary upgrades to Even More Space seats with up to 7 inches more legroom at the time of booking, where available. Additionally, with the pre-selected Perk You Pick benefit, Mosaic 2 members receive a waiver of the $125 fee for bringing a cat or dog on board.
Extension of elite status
Travelers also receive a benefit when renewing their elite status. To maintain their Mosaic 1 status, travelers must collect 10 “tiles,” the currency of the True Blue program, during the three-month introductory period.
Customers earn one point for every $100 spent with JetBlue, including flights and vacation packages through JetBlue Vacations. They can also earn points by spending with JetBlue credit cards at a rate of one point per $1,000.
Typically, travelers must earn 50 tiles per year to become Mosaic 1, so status-matched elites are offered a boost. To maintain Mosaic 2 status for the year, status-matched elites must earn 25 tiles within three months by spending either $2,500 at JetBlue or $25,000 with a JetBlue credit card.
By collecting 40 tiles within three months, eligible members can upgrade to Mosaic 3 status with even more privileges, such as four free upgrades from basic “Core” seats to “Mint” reclining seats.
How can you apply?
Travelers interested in the Status Match offer can apply online through a dedicated webpage. You will be asked to submit a screenshot of your frequent flyer profile with an eligible competitor, showing your full name and rank.
To be matched to Mosaic 2, you will also need to provide a screenshot or photo of your most recent boarding pass or flight confirmation showing your status.
