United Way of Greater Lorain County concluded this year’s “Fill the Bus” school supply drive on August 16.

Thanks to the generosity of the community and the support of the campaign’s sponsor, I-90 Nissan, nearly 23,000 school supplies were distributed to 15 participating school districts throughout Lorain County, according to a press release.

More than 50 collection points participated in this year’s “Fill the Bus” campaign to ensure that every child has the resources they need for academic success, the press release said.

“We are incredibly grateful to everyone who contributed to Fill the Bus this year,” said Colleen Walts, marketing and engagement director at United Way of Greater Lorain County, in the press release. “The enthusiasm we have seen this summer has been incredible.”

“With the help of local residents, we have been able to partially ease the financial burden on many families and teachers and ensure that students have the materials they need to get off to a good start in the school year.”

The Fill the Bus school supply drive is an integral part of United Way’s year-round Collect.Sort.Deliver.Impact initiative.

The initiative focuses on collecting, sorting and distributing urgently needed items, including school supplies and books, as well as tampons and sanitary pads.

“Every child deserves access to the resources that will equip them to succeed in school,” Ryan Aroney, president and CEO of United Way of Greater Lorain County, said in the press release. “Thanks to the Fill the Bus campaign, thousands of local students are now better prepared for the upcoming school year and hard-working teachers don’t have to spend their own money on classroom supplies.”
