FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — American Airlines is suspending its flights to Israel through the end of March, extending a disruption that began in the early days of the Gaza war.

An airline spokesman said on Wednesday that customers with tickets for flights to Tel Aviv could rebook at no additional cost or cancel their trip and receive a refund.

The airline announced that flights to Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv were suspended until March 29. Over the weekend, the airline published a travel warning on its website.

“We will continue to work closely with our partner airlines to support customers traveling between Israel and European cities with connections to the United States,” the spokesman said.

Delta Air Lines has extended the suspension of flights to Tel Aviv from August 31 to September 30. United Airlines has suspended operations indefinitely.

All three airlines suspended flights to Israel shortly after the October 7 Hamas attack that sparked the war. Many other international airlines did the same, although some later resumed flights.

German airline Lufthansa announced on Monday that it would suspend all flights to Tel Aviv, Amman, Beirut, Tehran and Erbil in Iraq until Monday due to a “current security analysis.”

The attack on October 7, which was followed by the Israeli bombardment of Gaza, killed around 1,200 Israelis, most of them civilians. According to the Hamas-controlled Health Ministry, around 40,000 people have died in Gaza. US attempts to broker a ceasefire have so far been unsuccessful.
