Zoe Saldaña joins the cast of Pixar’s Elio: A “captivating story” about “unconventional families”

ANAHEIM, California – It was a busy December 23rd for star Zoe Saldaña, who appeared on stage twice in one night at the Entertainment Showcase, representing the third installment in the “Avatar” series, “Avatar: Fire and Ashes,” as well as Pixar’s upcoming original film, “Elio,” in which she plays Elio’s aunt Olga.

The studio describes “Elio” as a “cosmic misadventure” and follows “Elio, a space fanatic with a vivid imagination.” Eventually, “he finds himself caught up in a cosmic misadventure that will require him to form new bonds with eccentric alien life forms, navigate a crisis of intergalactic proportions, and somehow figure out who he’s really meant to be.”

In addition to Saldaña, “Elio” features Yonas Kibreab as the voice of Elio, Brad Garrett as Lord Grigon and Jameela Jamil as Ambassador Questa.

On The Red Carpet spoke to Saldaña about the animated film.

“I’m a huge fan of movies that are about family and unconventional families, and ‘Elio’ is that story about this wonderful little boy who is trying to fit in and thinks that his home is actually going to be in space,” she said.

“Obviously we’re going to have to deal with all the difficulties and hardships that come with his decisions, you know, and I just think it’s a really compelling story and I’m just so excited.”

The film was directed by Madeline Sharafian, Domee Shi and Adrian Molina and produced by Mary Alice Drumm.

“Elio” will be released in theaters on June 13, 2025.

The Walt Disney Company is the parent company of Pixar and this ABC channel.
