If your children give you the law, just follow it.
At least that’s how Adam Sandler sees it when his daughters Sadie (18) and Sunny (15) – whom he has with his wife Jackie Sandler – encourage him to take his health seriously.
“They always look out for me and my health, just like I did for my dad,” Sandler told People on Tuesday. “You’re like, ‘Man, I want this guy around,’ so I was always yelling at my dad to stop smoking, and my kids were yelling at me to just calm down and try to eat a little more like a normal person.”
Meanwhile, this is not the first time that the 57-year-old’s children have commented on his wellness habits.
Earlier this month, Sandler revealed on the podcast “The Joe Rogan Experience” that his training routine had declined over the years.
“I used to take training so seriously… and now I can’t fucking do it,” he admitted to host Joe Rogan.
“I play basketball and then I eat,” he continued. “Every time I eat, I’m like, ‘What are you doing, man? You don’t have to do that.’ I can’t stop, I just gained a little weight everywhere.”
However, the comedian is finding it harder to get back into his usual rhythm these days. Sandler even said that Sadie wanted him to work with the same trainer he had while filming the 2008 movie You Don’t Mess with the Zohan.
“It’s really tough now,” he admitted about fitness training. “My kids, one daughter, Sadie, always says, ‘Daddy, get the Zohan coach. Why did you ever give up on this? Why did you stop?'”
As Sandler told his eldest child, “It’s a lot of work.”
“I just can’t go back in there,” Sandler said. “She’s right about everything, but I don’t promise her anything. I say, ‘Let me think about it, that’s a good idea.'”
But at some point, the “Grown Ups” star was able to do the necessary work.
“When I was 18 to 23, I hid it so much,” he recalled with Rogan, adding that he “looked good” while filming You Don’t Mess with the Zohan.
And why won’t he call his old coach? Sandler put it this way: “I have the best guy, the guy who beat me up for ‘Zohan,’ and I love him. I just look at him and love him so much that I say, ‘Let’s keep the friendship. I don’t want the friendship to be destroyed by this.'”
The “Happy Gilmore” actor remains active and plays basketball up to five times a week, which “keeps him in shape.”
“I still don’t want to take my shirt off, but I play maybe four or five times a week when I get out,” Sandler joked.
But one thing is clear: his family will always support the “Murder Mystery” star on his journey.
In fact, on their anniversary last June, Sandler took a moment to praise his wife.
“Happy 20th, my sweet Jackie! Your ‘I do’ was the most beautiful gift of my life,” he wrote on Instagram next to the wedding photo.
“My heart has been yours since the first second I saw you, and I love and appreciate your devoted soul more every day. Us. The kids. Let’s keep going, baby,” he concluded. “I will give you lots of love. Always.”
