Big Sean releases music video for new single “Yes”

Big Sean has released a music video for his latest single “Yes”, which follows other recently released tracks such as the Alchemist-produced “Upwards“ and “Together Forever”.

On “Yes,” Sean raps, “I’d rather give my soul to all of you, I don’t have to sell it. Maybe I’ll make fun of your rap Mount Rushmore after I climb it.”

In the accompanying image, Sean spits against the backdrop of a collage, before interspersed black-and-white shots of him give the clip a certain attitude.

Check out the video below.

Earlier this month, Sean released the aforementioned “On Up,” an introspective track. “On Up” reflects on the lessons of fatherhood and Sean’s desire to instill a sense of resilience in him: “I look into my son’s eyes and still see his innocence/I see my inner child in him and still the remains.”

The song is dedicated to his son Noah Hasani and contains samples of Jodeci’s “Get On Up”. The accompanying video, directed by Lawrence Lamont, the child’s godfather, was filmed from the baby’s point of view. The video shows a day in the child’s life and features parents Sean and Jhene Aiko.

All titles can be heard on Better me than youSean’s latest work on Def Jam Recordings, due out soon.

Before the album’s release, Big Sean sat down with Charlamagne tha God for an in-depth conversation as part of his “Out of Context” series.

According to Big Sean, the album’s title touches on the idea of generational resilience. “Usually it’s better, you’re better than me, but I realize when you’re the one who has to endure it all – endure the excess, maybe break a cycle in your family or change your environment for your circle or whatever the case may be – when you’re that one, it’s like you realize you’re only there because you’re the one who can handle it. Because that’s how God designed you to be.

“So, you realize I’m better than you because I’m the one who can do it. I’m better than you could ever be, you understand me? When I hold my son, I feel like it’s up to me now. It’s Daddy’s job to take the excess, and sometimes it’s Mommy’s job to step in and be that. The person who has to endure all of that, but one day it will be up to him. And when that time comes, I hope he realizes it’s not a burden. It’s an opportunity. It’s a responsibility you were meant to take. Better me than you.”
