Amazon Games releases the co-op title King of the FleshIt also has publishing deals with Maverick Games for its narrative-driven open-world title and with Crystal Dynamics for the next Grave robbers game. All this means that the company is looking to diversify its publishing offering, something EMEA Publishing Director Jon Rosenblatt confirmed to GamesIndustry.

“Our strategy has always been to develop and publish games of the highest quality. We are not obsessed with them being just MMOs. (…) It’s really important to us to continue to make great games, but also to make sure the games are diverse in the way they look and feel.”

Rosenblatt further claims that Amazon is not tied to a genre or game type when looking for projects behind which it can put its publishing power, and talks about how the success of New World And The Lost Ark has opened many doors for the company’s publishing arm and shows that Amazon is “not bound by tax obligations” when delivering titles.

All this is taken at face value, but Rosenblatt’s comments leave out how New World When Aeternum was announced, every effort was made not to label the game as an MMORPG, but to package it as something entirely new – a tactic that will continue in other upcoming media. We also remember when Amazon released games like Break out And crucible. While King of the Flesh is perhaps not just an oddity for Amazon in name, but part of the company’s attempt to distance itself as much as possible from MMOs – and perhaps also to remember the events for a shorter time.
