Amazon removes the main function of the Echo Show 8 Photos Edition – focusing on photos

Last year, Amazon launched the Echo Show 8 Photos Edition, which could display owners’ favorite photos by default—as long as they paid an additional fee. Now, it looks like that plan has been abandoned, as the Echo Show 8 Photos Edition and its accompanying $2/month PhotosPlus subscription have all but been deleted from Amazon’s website.

A customer received a message that the service was canceled and Amazon will no longer offer the subscription as of September 23rd.

The PhotosPlus subscription is what owners need to make photos the “primary content you see” on the Echo Show 8 Photos Edition with a slideshow that changes every 30 seconds. It also offers the ability to view photos “indefinitely,” as other Echo Show displays replace your photo slideshow with commercials and ads after three hours.

However, with Amazon now doing away with the subscription, users who paid $159.99 more for the Echo Show 8 Photos Edition will no longer be able to display their photos prominently, and the device will essentially become a standard Echo Show 8. Although Amazon is discontinuing this feature, PhotosPlus users will still be able to access the 25GB of photo and video storage the subscription offers, according to the company.

The edge I contacted Amazon for more information about the reason for the cancellation of the subscription but did not receive an immediate response.
