Tyrone Tracy is now known as “Paul Pierce” in the New York Giants locker room

The New York Giants experienced a heartbreaking moment during training camp last week when rookie running back Tyrone Tracy suffered an ankle injury.

Tracy had never had any major injuries or surgery before, and he described the moment as “scary.”

“It was definitely something scary,” Tracy told reporters Tuesday. “The doctors were taking precautions, so I didn’t know what was going on. They didn’t know directly what was going on. They just did what they thought was right at the time.”

Tracy sprained his ankle during training and was carried off the field in a cast. Everyone feared the worst when he was taken to hospital for scans and further tests.

Once that was done and they learned that it was not a serious injury, Tracy insisted that they go back to meetings immediately.

“After everything in the hospital, we were back. We were back in meetings pretty quickly. Actually just because I didn’t want to miss any meetings. I didn’t want to miss any information that was coming in,” he said.

As a newbie, Tracy knows that if he misses too much information, he will fall behind. He wanted to avoid that and hurried to get back on the climb.

Because of his quick return, his teammates called him “Paul Pierce.” The Boston Celtics forward left the court in a wheelchair during the 2008 NBA Finals, but was back on his feet a few minutes later.

“They were pretty excited about me when I got here. A lot of people in the building started calling me Paul Pierce,” he said. “They said I pulled a Paul Pierce. But that’s all good. I know there’s real love in the building, and I’m really happy to be here.”

Tracy had five 26-yard runs against the Lions and will play against the New York Jets on Saturday.
