Alicia Silverstone alarms fans after she appears to have eaten a poisonous fruit in a TikTok video

Fans of Alicia Silverstone believe that she may have simply made a rash mistake and are now very concerned about her well-being.

On Monday, the actress caused alarm after she posted a video on TikTok where it looked like she picked and ate a poisonous fruit from a plant while walking in England.

“OK, I’ve spotted something I don’t know what it is and I need your help,” Silverstone told her more than 4 million followers in the clip. “I just took a bite of it because it was lying on the road and we were debating whether it was a tomato or not.”

The “Batman & Robin” star said she did not believe the small orange fruit could be a tomato because of the plant’s leaves and asked her fans for help in identifying the miniature fruit.

“So what the hell is this? Because when you open it up, it looks like this,” she said, before turning her phone to show the squashed fruit on the ground. “And when I bite into it – I don’t think you’re supposed to eat it – but it’s almost like a pepper? Does anyone know what this is?”

The “Reptile” actress reiterated her question in the caption of the post: “What the f*** is this? I’m in England and I can’t figure it out.”

Although Silverstone has not yet posted an update on her condition after eating the strange fruit, many people speculated that she had eaten a Jerusalem artichoke, which resembles a cherry tomato, has seeds similar to those of a bell pepper, and is poisonous.

Eating a Jerusalem artichoke can cause symptoms such as fever, sweating, vomiting, stomach pain, headache and an increased heart rate, according to the Queensland Poisons Information Centre. Symptoms can last for several days and there have even been reports of deaths.

“Jerusalem artichokes… They are poisonous 😬,” one person commented.

Another wrote: “You bit into something you don’t know what it is? On the street!?”

“Is Alicia okay??? We need an update!” someone else commented.

Concerns about Silverstone’s bizarre sampling also reached X (formerly Twitter).

HuffPost has contacted Silverstone representatives for comment.
