AUCKLAND, New Zealand, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) — A seminar on “Overseas distribution of Chinese books and cooperation in copyright” was held in Auckland, New Zealand on Friday.

The seminar, organized by the China International Book Trading Corporation (CIBTC) and the Prime Media Group of New Zealand, aimed to deepen cooperation and exchanges between China and New Zealand in the publishing industry, organizers said.

Minister for Arts, Culture and Heritage Paul Goldsmith said New Zealand values ​​its friendship with China and looks forward to deepening relations between the two countries.

New Zealand is known for its creative industries and the links between our two countries offer enormous opportunities in trade, books and many other creative industries, he said.

Chen Shijie, Chinese consul general in Auckland, said China’s publishing industry has experienced rapid growth in recent years, adding: “The growing trends of online literature and digital publishing have given a strong impetus to the development of China’s publishing industry. Publications that introduce China attract many overseas readers and promote copyright cooperation and overseas cultural exchanges.”

“China-New Zealand cooperation in publishing is enjoying healthy momentum. The two countries have established cooperation mechanisms in the areas of exhibitions, digital library cooperation, protection of old books and sharing of resources,” he said.

At the seminar, representatives of the Chinese and New Zealand publishing industries discussed ways to explore cooperation opportunities.
