Applebee’s customer arrested and charged with disturbing the peace in connection with an “All You Can Eat” offer

A customer dining at an Applebee’s in Portage, Indiana, was arrested after a “verbal disturbance” related to the restaurant chain’s “All You Can Eat” offering, according to a police report obtained by Today.

Portage police were called to an Applebee’s at 6211 US Highway 6 at around 8:38 p.m. on August 2. According to the report, dispatchers warned they heard “several women screaming” and “threatening individuals.” The first officer to arrive on the scene said he encountered a group of three adults, including a 28-year-old woman who was arrested, as well as “several juveniles,” according to Today.

A member of the group told the officer that things got heated after an Applebee’s manager informed the group that the chain’s “All You Can Eat” offer did not apply to an entire table if one person ordered individually. Instead, each person had to pay $15.99 for their own meal.

Applebee’s limited-time offer, announced on July 29, includes an order of Boneless Wings, Applebee’s Riblets or Crispy Double Crunch Shrimp served with Endless Fries for just $15.99. The offer states that the price is per person.

According to the report, shortly after the manager served the table an updated bill, another heated argument broke out, prompting the manager to call police. The woman, who was later arrested and charged with disturbing the peace, reportedly got into an argument with another couple who left the restaurant during the argument. The officer said that at this point, the woman “became very loud and disruptive, attracting the attention of other patrons with her behavior.”

The woman, whose name was not disclosed, was eventually arrested after the officer attempted to calm her down (in one case by putting his hand over her mouth) and twice warned her for disorderly conduct.

Another member of the group paid the bill in full after noticing on the menu that the price was per person.
