Gala concert for Machel Montano’s 50th birthday announced at the Kennedy Center

The Kennedy Center announces an additional program of contemporary music to be held in the Concert Hall on November 25, 2024: the 50th anniversary concert of Machel Montano: A Black Tie Affair.

Following his performance at Club Quarantine Live with D-Nice last fall, award-winning musician Machel Montano returns to the Kennedy Center for a historic headlining concert. The event, which will be a special black tie evening, invites guests to attend “in style” for an unforgettable evening of music celebrating the 50th birthday of the “King of Soca.”

This special occasion will be a joyous celebration that will honor Montano’s illustrious career and his lifelong mission to bring Soca to the world.

About Machel Montano

With his ever-evolving musical offering, multi-award-winning artist Machel Montano is working on his mission to bring soca into the realm of mainstream music. Since a career that began at the age of seven, Montano has achieved countless achievements – highlights include performing at Madison Square Garden at nine, appearing on Star Search at eleven, becoming the first soca artist to land a headlining slot at the Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival, touring with Pitbull, making history as a two-time recipient of the Bob Marley Award for Entertainer of the Year at the Martins International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA), winning a Soul Train Award in 2014, 10 Road Marches and 7 Power Soca Monarch titles in Trinidad and Tobago, and performing at Coachella with Major Lazer. In 2018, Montano received an Honorary Doctorate of Arts from the University of Trinidad and Tobago. Additionally, Montano was inducted into the Young, Gifted & Black Caribbean Music Entertainment ICON Hall of Fame and received a 2021 award from the Caribbean Club of Harvard University for Entertainer of the Year and the 2023 Lifetime Achievement Award at the Caribbean Music Awards. He will also receive the Entertainer’s Key to the City of New York on August 25, 2024. Montano is determined and focused on spreading soca music around the world. To fulfill his mission, he has toured extensively and continues to revolutionize the genre.

Tickets go on sale for members on Tuesday, August 20, and for the public on Friday, August 23.
