Alicia Silverstone is ‘alive and well’ after eating slightly poisonous fruit

Alicia Silverstone shared an update on social media, reassuring her followers that she was fine after posting a TikTok on Monday that caused some concern among fans because she ate a “slightly poisonous” fruit.

“Alive and well! Don’t worry… I didn’t swallow 😉😛,” said the Clueless Star shared a cheeky update.

On Monday, the star posted a video asking for help identifying a bright orange mystery fruit she ate, which was quickly identified by her fans as possibly poisonous.

“Okay, I found something, but I don’t know what it is and I need your help,” she said, pointing to a half-eaten cherry tomato-sized fruit. “I only took a bite because it was lying on the street and we were discussing whether it was a tomato. It’s definitely not, because look at these leaves.”

The Babysitters Club The star showed the bush she picked the berry from, which was behind an iron fence on the patio of an apartment building. The TikTok quickly filled with comments speculating that it could be Solanum pseudocapsicum, which bears the poisonous fruit known as Jerusalem cherry.

Rachel Meyer, associate professor of ecology and evolutionary biology at UC Santa Cruz, was able to confirm the identity of the plant. Weekly entertainment as Solanum pseudocapsicum. She noted that the plant is “mildly poisonous, but a few fruits won’t hurt – the worst thing is that it can cause vomiting.”

Professor Meyer added: “The fruits and leaves are also medicinally effective and chemically quite amazing and are even used for gastrointestinal problems.” However, he warned: “People should NOT eat this plant or attempt to use it medicinally without familiarising themselves with the literature on traditional uses and toxicity levels.”

Silverstone himself seemed to sense that it might not be wise to try the glowing fruit, and continued: “So what the hell is this? Because when you open it, it looks like this, and when I bite into it – I don’t think you should eat this.”

Instead of tasting like a cherry tomato or a berry, Silverstone commented, “It almost tastes like a pepper?” She ended her short TikTok by asking again, “Does anyone know what this is? I don’t know what it is, I need someone to tell me. I’m in England. Okay, thanks!”

Silverstone representatives did not immediately respond to EWPlease leave a comment.
