Indie game developer Studio Fizbin and publisher Thunderful Publishing released a new trailer for their latest game during Gamescom 2024, when we got a first look at Rule breakers. The game puts you in a dystopian kingdom called Clef, where you play a child soldier turned anarchist rebel who seeks to completely wipe out the Queen’s empire. This is a pure single-player action roguelike with no particular genre blending as you battle and upgrade your way through legions of loyal warriors and high-tech medieval machinery to penetrate the inner sanctums of Bastion and become the Reignbreaker. Rule breakers

Deep within the gothic warren of the Queen’s great Bastion, you are Clef. You and your band of rebels are a seditious glitch in the Queen’s carefully orchestrated system. Race and smash through legions of enemy high-tech medieval machinery to penetrate the Bastion’s inner sanctums – bombard guarded chambers, armored vaults, and ancient crypts. Each hand-crafted level within the fortress holds secrets, traps, and unimaginable hoarded riches. The punk spirit roars in your veins. Destroy the Bastion’s defenses, expose its mysterious truths, and paint its walls with rebellion.

Surrendering to the grave is not part of your creed. Every defeat offers the chance to equip another spear in your ever-growing arsenal. Unlock dozens of new weapons as you play. Experimentation is rewarded – rise again, stronger and more determined. The Queen’s boot-licking lapdogs defend her bastion from within, protecting artifacts that would grant you powerful gifts – good thing you have the key. Negotiate with temperamental loyalists, jaded soldiers, self-serving mercenaries, and haughty aristocrats – find out what motivates them. Deeper down, in the hidden corners of the bastion, you may even find allies willing to help you… assuming you have the cash.
