The Green Bay Packers released former Wisconsin Badgers long snapper Peter Bowden last week, The Athletic reports. Matt Schneidman.
This is the second time the Packers have parted ways with Bowden. The UW graduate was released just two days into the Green Bay Packers’ training camp to make room on the roster for quarterback Jacob Eason.
Although he was re-signed a few days later, Green Bay ultimately decided to release the former UW specialist to make room on the roster for linebacker Chris Russell and running back Nate McCrary.
Both Russell and McCrary joined the Packers as backups after injuries to the 90-man roster. Still, the deadline for Green Bay’s 53-man roster is August 27 at 3 p.m. CT.
Bowden was competing with former Super Bowl champion Matt Orzech for the starting long snapper position, and this move could mean the end of that battle.
The Packers released LS Peter Bowden and S Tyler Coyle to make room for LB Chris Russell and RB Nate McCrary.

The San Diego, California native was Wisconsin’s starting long snapper from 2021 to 2023. In 2023, his fifth year on campus, he was named a finalist for the Patrick Mannelly Award (for the nation’s best long snapper) after starting all 13 of UW’s contests.
He will continue to fight for a place in the squad next week.
