WEST SIDE STORY at CM Performing Arts

Get a first look at the CM Performing Arts Center’s current production of “West Side Story,” running through September 8 on the Noel S. Ruiz Theatre’s Main Stage.

From its first notes to its last breath, West Side Story is one of the most unforgettable musicals and greatest love stories of all time. Arthur Laurents’ book is as powerful, poignant and timely as ever. Leonard Bernstein’s score and Stephen Sondheim’s lyrics are widely considered to be the finest ever written. The world’s greatest love story is taken to the road in this groundbreaking Broadway musical that is one of the theater’s greatest achievements. Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet is transplanted to modern day New York as two young, idealistic lovers find themselves caught between warring street gangs, the “American” Jets and the Puerto Rican Sharks. Their struggle to survive in a world filled with hate, violence and prejudice is one of the most innovative, heartbreaking and relevant musical dramas of our time.
