‘Clueless’ star Alicia Silverstone worries fans after eating potentially poisonous berries

“Clueless” star Alicia Silverstone has some fans worried about her health on social media.

The actress posted a video of herself eating a mysterious fruit or vegetable while out for a walk in England on social media, captioning it: “What the hell is this? I’m in England and I can’t figure it out.”

“OK, I found something I don’t know what it is and I need your help,” she told her TikTok followers. “I just took a bite because it was lying on the street and we were debating whether this is a tomato or not. It’s definitely not one because look at these leaves,” she noted as she panned the camera to the plant.

She then took a bite of another plant and said, “I don’t think this is edible,” adding that the inside reminded her of a bell pepper. At the end of the video, she asks her followers to help identify the mysterious plant.

“Eating random stuff off of bushes that you don’t know what it is is a level of fearlessness I can only aspire to,” said one TikTok user. Another added, “To cut to the chase: why are you eating random things from someone’s garden?!”

According to the Queensland Poisons Information Centre, all parts of the Jerusalem artichoke are poisonous, “especially the unripe fruit.” Early symptoms are described as “fever, sweating, vomiting, stomach pain, headache and increased heart rate,” which appear “several hours later” and can last for several days.

The Northern New England Poison Center describes the plant as having “glossy blue-green leaves and fruits that resemble cherry tomatoes.”

Almost a full 24 hours have passed since the “Clueless” star posted the video, and despite requests for an update on her condition, Silverstone has yet to let her fans know how she is doing.
