Green Day celebrates a huge milestone!

On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of their revolutionary punk album American Idiotthe band is releasing a deluxe edition of the record that includes unearthed demos and live performances, they announced on Friday, August 9.

When the LP was first released in 2004, it marked a comeback for the rock group – after mediocre sales for their previous record warning in the year 2000. American Idiot catapulted Green Day back into the mainstream, spawning several career-defining hits, including “Boulevard of Broken Dreams,” “Holiday,” and the album’s title track, and securing them their first seven Grammy nominations.

“In the summer of 2004, Green Day and Rob Cavallo went into the studio to create American Idiot, not knowing what the future would hold,” the trio wrote on Instagram in their announcement of the upcoming release. “American Idiot was created in response to the daily media bombardment that spreads it far and wide, leaving us desensitized and fatigued – full of themes that are still relevant today, 20 years later.”

The anniversary release, which comes out on October 25, includes several different box sets, complete with new vinyl or CDs containing previously unreleased demos of fan-favorite songs as well as live recordings of a 2004 Green Day concert at Irving Plaza in New York City.

In addition to the new records, the release includes a 110-minute documentary, 20 years of American Idiotwhich includes new interviews with band members and archive footage from old performances.

While the band’s latest announcement is reminiscent of a previous release, Green Day hasn’t slowed down in producing new original music—they’ve released their 14th studio album. savior in January. Since May, the punk group has been touring Europe and North America to promote the album.

Along the way, lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong even had time to check out another concert sensation: He attended Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour when the 34-year-old singer played in front of an audience in Lyon, France.

“Just saw the Taylor Swift tour in Lyon, France 🇫🇷!!,” Armstrong wrote in an Instagram caption after the show. “Great production. Great voice. Great entertainer. Great songwriting. Crazy crowd.”

American Idiot (20th Anniversary) Deluxe Edition will be released on October 25th.
